Ricordea Extension

Trying to determine the right location for a ricordea in my 8 gal IM Nuvo. It seems to want to contort itself rather than lay flat. It has been in the tank about 10 days. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1407460161.097045.jpg

It is on a plug on my sand bed. The question is does this guy look unhappy to you? Originally he was under the stock 8watt LED before I moved him under my 120 watt led which is dialed way way down. Under both lights it is exhibiting the same behavior. If I turn the light up, it will close right up.

In terms of flow, it is not in an area of direct flow and protected by rock on a few sides.

Water parameters are all in check. Perhaps this is normal behavior.

Do they not lay flat on the substrate? This one has always been contorted in one way or another but the tentacles are fully extended and otherwise looks good.

I would say it sort of depends on their size and the flow. If there is very little flow and they are small they should lay flat. However as the flow increases and their size increases they probably contort more. Even if flow is low, if they are pretty large they have more space on them to catch the current and contort.

My bigger ones usually puff and inflate like that. Especially since I added more flow to the tank recently. They're still in a low flow area, but are getting a bit more flow than before. I'd be concerned if they were shriveled up and small.
