ricordia lighting needs

What do Rics need for lighting, are they similar to mushroom corals.

I have a 10k daylight bulb in a 20g long tank and my mushrooms do fine.

Would rics be ok too?

What's the total wattage of your tank? Rics need more lighting than regular shrooms. It depends if you want yumas or floridas. Some yumas like strong lighting and some don't. Floridas typically like strong lighting. It'd be best to get more lighting and place the corals accordingly in your tank depending on whether they prefer strong lighting or not.

your lighting would be just fine.. even for yumas..i have a bunch of mine under PCS.. an they grow verry well..

hope you dont mind me adding on to your thread but here we go

ok so now that we have somewhat figured out whats required for them what is optimal for them and what is the best light for making them "pop" ?

You will need more light. They might live? but they will be dull. The Florida ricordia will not do well at all.
You have 1 watt per gl of not a very intense light source.
I prefer 7-15 W per gl of MH 14-20K for my ricordia and mushrooms.
Get yourself a nice little 150 w HQI-you can find them used all over the place for not much money.
good luck

i dont think they would be fine at all under 10 watts like he stated in his post. later he said he has 20 watt 50/50 so its really only 10 watts since half is actinic and knowing its a 20 watter it must be a screw in bulb which might be fine on a 5 gallon and under but i wouldnt say ricordia would do fine being that its only a 20 watt 50/50 screw in bulb over a 20 gallon. yea it might live if its right under the light up high but its not gonna do to well in the long run.

agreed

looks like no ricodia for me

the coralife box says 20watts, its one light that is 50 daylight 6000k and 50 actinic.

I originally said 10k, not watt.

that was a daylight bulb, but I got a new one.

It's not screw-in in the sense that a normal bulb does, it has 2 prongs and kind of snaps in, is that what you're talking about?

either way, no rics for me untill I can upgrade

Thanks everyone!

Take your time and find yourself a good deal on a used MH. Check craigslist, here or local sites. You will be much happier with what you can keep in the long run-plus it is better for the corals. good luck!

I keep ricordea, yuma, and other misc. shrooms under PCs in my 20 gallon long, and they are doing exellent and look great too. Got the fixture used for $40. Hope this helps :)
