RO BH90 HOB skimmer issues

Hi all! I have a Reeft Octopus BH90 HOB skimmer on my 50 gallon. Been running it for about two months and, except for a small electrical fire when it unexpectedly overflowed and killed a perfectly innocent surge protector, I've been thrilled with it. Fabulous, nasty skim.

However, the thing got filthy. Not just the collection cup, but the whole chamber was foul. So I took it down, cleaned it, and put it back up. No changes from before. Now the collection cup is filling with bubbles within minutes.

I had this issue when I first started with it (RIP surge protector), but for the life of me I don't remember what I did to fix it. CoralVue support is next to useless.

You can raise it a bit to help it stop overflowing until it gets back to normal. It will start skimming again in a day or 2. I never clean my skimmer well. I just scrub it out with tap water and a bottle brush.

Yup just needs its slime coat back.

Welcome to Reef Central. I agree that it should settle down in a few days.

Needs to "re-cycle"....should be a couple days....like the rest have said
