I bought one called the water general. It has 2 refillable di units on top. It works great. The nice thing with the clear di canisters is you can see the color and if it is channeling water. I ordered extra di medium and I have added some twice after it settled. My water is 380 out of the tap, around 30 after thr ro part and 0 after the di. It was about $100. out of Orange county Ca.
i got the ocean reef +1, and i can say its a really nice unit, at a great price. my dual inline tds meter registered 440 ppm striaght from the tap, and 4 ppm after the RO unit, and 0 after the di.
if you have too high of tds before the DI, you will wear it out quickly.
If you do some research here on RC you will find your answer. I recommend the Typhoon III from www.airwaterice.com The numerous reasons why it is one of the better units can be found in this forum.
I have a water general from EBay. I liked it at fist, but messing with the horizontal DI chambers is getting old. I have a standard, vertical chamber coming from Bryan at www.purelyh2o.com .
My unit was around $120 delivered if I recall. It produced 0 TDS for a long time....I have since replaced the DI resin and since then I have to "top off" the DI chambers pretty often to prevent channelling. The vertical chamber will fix that.
Am I happy with my filterdirect unit? Sort of. Would I but another one? Personally, I'd but from www.purelyh2o.com, but there are other good units from AWI, Buckeye, melev and others. Bryan at purelyh2o helps folks a lot here, so, in a "tie" he would win IMO.
