Got my new Kent DI only unit hooked up today, so I dont need this RO unit. Here's the specs:

Unit is by KEMFLO
It has fairly new (2 months) carbon and pre-filter units
Has drinking water attachment
Has 3 gallon storage tank
65 gpd membrane (not sure how old)

$75, pickup only.

Zep,
Keep us updated on how the DI unit works out for you. C-SEA had a speaker last night that works with high end commercial water perification units. I asked several questions about using a non mixed resin DI only system, but I'm still curious how time consuming/economical the unit is on a hobbyist scale...

Will do. I retained my mixed bed resin DI unit from the RO system, and am running it after the Kent unit also. I'll get some pics of the new unit up soon.

We'll see. :)

I did it because there is NO waste water, and the resins are re-chargeable so there is NO extra cost down the road. No membranes to replace, no filters to replace, except the carbon cartridge. You do need to re-charge the resins about every 6 months or so.

I guess we are going to have to wait for Larry to be our guinea pig. The speaker at our meeting seemed to think it wasn't an effective alternative. He seemed to think purity would not be as high and the resin will be exhausted much faster.

After the presentation one of the members approached me based on the questions I asked, and said he had already tried the method. He claimed he was only getting about 30 gallons of 0 TDS water before it began to rise, but he didn't go into detail on how fast it then rose.

I belive the recharging is done with hydrochloric acid and red devil drain cleaner.

Here is a thread on the system. Calfo seems to think it's good, but I'm pretty curious why it hasn't caught on with more reefers...

Ya, I actually got an extra set of resins, so I can just swap them out, then re-charge the old stuff. Figured it would take some of the 'urgency' away from having to complete the recharge right now. Able to do it later on in the day if I need to.

Need to go to lowes tomorrow and get a couple 1/4" line fittings for the DI unit. I need a shutoff right before the unit, and a 'T' with shutoff right before the added on mixed bed DI unit. That way when I need to re-charge I can shut the water off to the unit easily, and open up the 'T' with a short piece of tubing attached, and drain the pressure off the system before I unscrew the canisters. Should make the operation allot less wet. ;)

It would be a real pain to ship, especially with the extra tank.

If anyone wants to check it out, I should be around all day today. :)

I'm curious, how large are the canisters? Are they 10" canisters like our RO/DI units or are they bigger than that?

Bit of a bump here...sorry guys

Larry,
I meant to ask you about your DI only unit when I was at your place the other day. How is the setup working for you?

Dumped it and went back to the R/O with DI. My water is too bad. The DI resins were only lasting a couple weeks.
