roomba like algae scrubber?

Can I borrow your towel
AquaGenesis International is the company putting them into production. Poking around over on their site they state a few different release dates, spring of 2010 to sometime in 2011 depending on what page you look at.

Personally I would LOVE one of these and would get on board, but I don't think it will work with a round tank.

Anyway, thought some of you might find it interesting and glassbox is always worth a look. In fact, check out this post which talks about Hanna about to be releasing Alkalinity, Calcium and Magnesium Checker colorimeter models.

I like the theme of making mundane but important tasks easier.

I WANT!!!

Funny thing, I was talking with a buddy about this idea just a month or two back. Sadly, at the time, I wrote it off as unfeasible. I hope these guys prove me wrong.

I love the idea of automating redundant tasks, and I love my roomba!

But this wouldn't work for me either. I don't even like to leave my regular magnet in the tank because I don't want to look at it. I have some clearance issues that I have to be real careful about when cleaning also. I would also worry about the device picking up a piece of sand and scratching things up.

I can see this being real handy for some people though and love to see the inventiveness!

Very cool... I've been following Hanna and waiting on the other Checkers to be released.. They have one out for Phosphorus(sp?) wich from what i was understanding was a low range PO4 meter that read PPB instead of PPM...

Glass cleaner is very cool! I just got done doing my morning wipe-down and would love it if it did it alone :D ...

Thanks for sharing!

Skip, no doubt... you could use a dozen or so in the shop I'm sure.

Tiff, I'm hoping there is a mechanism to detect even a grain of sand, but I share the same concern. And yes, clearance could definitely be an issue, this thing could be an (unintentional) frag creator, but I think I would personally work out my aquascaping to accommodate it if it would work in a round tank and not have the concern about scratches. I am that lazy ;)

That guy posted here too. He's a shill for the company, not a "satisfied user." If lying to potential customers seems like a business plan that you'd like to support, go for it.

Cheers

Which guy? I presume you mean the agiaquatics folks, erick's pretty stand up IME. Didn't catch that post you refer to, so I have no context, can you shoot a link (or don't if you want to just let if fizzle out).

Just saw the thread on GB and thought it looked pretty cool.

I saw the post from the person who works for the company.. He was like "CHECK THIS OUT!!" Kinda lame, but business is business.
One of my concerns would be my Turbos. They sit on the front glass during the day, and if you push them off the glass they fall shell down and can't get back up..

If I had this I wouldn't have turbos. I don't think this thing would leave you with enough algae for a large snail to eat.

Next RoboRed Bug eater, RoboAiptasia Terminator, RoboNemo, etc.

RISE OF THE MACHINES!!! Quick where's my tinfoil helmet?

Even better, pest destroying nanobots that come in a jar like tigger pods. hehehe

Why bother really, let's skip right to 100% mechanical reefs, no life required!

Some days I think it would be a lot easier (and probably a lot less expensive) to just have an HD display showing some footage from Planet Earth or something.

Even if the company's a shill - something like that would be possible to create with a bit of work, and some basic microcontroller programming. all the electronics and power would be on the outside magnet base.
