routing acrylic tubes

Hello. I have an 8" tube that was not smoothly chopped. How do I trim the edges of an acrylic tube using a router/router table?

I've rubbed tubes on sandpaper, but these tubes have been small diameter tubes that were saw-cut pretty smoothly.

I would still use a sander of some sort. Perhaps a dremel with a sanding/cutting wheel to lightly run along the edge.

I think DonW here made a jig to cut the edges of acrylic tubing. It's comprised of cutting an 8" hole in plywood to hold the tubing and placing 90 degree squares to hold the tubing perpendicular to the plywood to get an even cut.
Then use a rabbeting router bit set to cut inside the tubing excess.

Or you can make a jig to cut the excess using a table saw. It comprises of a V-shape plywood jig that you can rotate the tubing in while the saw blade cuts.

Hi all,

Acrylic tube can be cut square by clamping a block to your table saw cross cut fence. Make sure the fence is perfectly square to the blade. Once you have fed the tube into the blade enough to penetrate the wall, back it out, turn off the saw and clamp the fence in place so that you can spin the tube against the table and fence to complete the cut.

I hope I described this technique well enough. Be very careful for kick back and make sure the tube stays tight against the fence and table to keep the cut square.

You also have to be careful not to push or pull the tube sideways (perpendicular to the blade) which would also cause the cut to go out of square. You can mark the tube perfectly by wrapping a piece of paper tightly around the tube so the edges line up and then drawing a line on the top edge of the paper.

Hope this helps.
