Rsm heat problems are real!

1 Week of having my Red Sea Max 250 and I would like to say that the heat problems are real.... My tank hit 90 yesterday and the house remains at 72 throughout the day.

Bad time for my chiller to break :(

Tank has been "cycling" for a week now and i have no raised levels. I read that having high temperature like im having is the cause of this.

this is turning into another nightmare for me -_-

Three letters.....L E D. Vortechs help too. Had the same problem with my biocube. Would routinely run mid 80's. With the above modifications, high 70 to about 82, which is fine. You can add some extra computer fans as well, that helps.

I also have a RSM250. Best to replace those T5s with LED lighting from Steve's LEDs. Checkout Reef Sanctuary, there is a forum dedicated to RSM reefers. Cheers!

the back water fans aren't working either. the fuse that goes in the socket is a .25 250 250 and i used a .50 25 250 but it still isn't working. normally changing the size of the fuse that small shouldn't make or break it either.

i think if I can get those small fans to work in the back somehow that It should go down some.

In terms of the LED's I wish they were much cheaper but since I just bought the tank (used) I cannot spend big cash at the moment. i have to go slowly until I can make another big purchase.

You can also prop the lid open an inch, or if there is a feeding door open that too. Kind of defeats the purpose bu works until you can find a more permanent fix.

right now im not in the best of places with cash to continue to invest. I know this is like a boat and "throw another thousand" at it is just about the same but I have to weigh my options.

Right now to change the controller on my chiller its going to cost 100 dollars. Changing lights and pumps will be over the 100 dollar range and will have to be for down the line.

that's crazy. I had a 250 for about 1 year and never had this issue with it. Only issue I ever had with that tank was fans kept breaking every 6m or so and had to call and replace them but besides that nothing. GL

Too bad its being a nightmare for you. Hope you can get your chiller fixed soon. I had heat issues too and had to get a chiller. Still have minor heat issues though since the little fans in the RSM hood get crusted with salt creep and don't work too well. Good luck with your cycling.

salt creep is what used to kill my fans lol. IMO do a DIY leds mod on that hood and make some holes for additional fans on top as well u will be golden. I forgot were I saw this but it was NICEEEEE

by opening the feeder flap i managed to bring it down from 90 to 83 with the lights on during the day. not optimal but an amazing jump.

Just to give an update.

So my pacific coast imports 1/4 chiller was giving me the E1 reader error and I was told by everyone that it was time to either get a new chiller or install a new controller. If you ever run into this problem I suggest to you to check the connections on the back of the controller. I was just about to take it to someone to have a new controller (120 dollars) and i decided to be a man and open it up.

SAVED 120 dollars and a long ride by taking it apart and looking under the hood.

PS: Its extremely easy to do (on this chiller) so before you spend some cash I highly suggest you check yours out!

I've been able to maintain 77 with no problems now. Open the front flap and the rear skimmer flap and your temperature should go down dramatically (at least mine did.)
