"But why's the run gone?!?"
haha. I couldn't see a clear rum w/o flavors being much of an issue. it should be a pure enough spirit like vodka. It just comes from a different source. I could be a little off on my bar info, but vodka, blanco tequilla, clear rum and grain alcohols that haven't been barrel aged should all be safe. They're pure spirits from the still, just made from different sugar sources.
NOW! I don't know exactly what is in all of them from a chemical composition side. They all have ethanol, but there are other organic compoinds present in the different clear spirits that give them their different tastes and smells. If memory serves they're of the ether/esther/ketone nature. I could be way off, but it's worth investigating anyway.
