Sailfert Test Kits Out of Stock

Greeting MD!

I was wondering what the problem seems to be with obtaining Sailfert Test Kits. You have been out of stock on a few items for quite some time.

This is the second time that I wanted to add a calcium test kit to my purchase but don't want to hold up the order because it is out of stock. I would rathter not pay the basic shipping fee for just a test kit it puts the price well above what the LFS is charging.

Thanks in advance.

I'm interested as well. I'm going to be making a purchase soon and would like to include a Calcium test kit and Alk test kit in my order.

Funny thing, I was at my LFS today and they had the contents of the Salifert Calc. test kits in ziplock bags... without the Salifert box. Wonder what is going on????

We apologize for the late reply. We check these boards as frequently as possible; however, we do need to make sure that emails sent to us directly are responded to first.

If you need an answer right away, please feel free to email us directly at sales@marinedepot.com or call us at 714-385-0080.

To the topic at hand, we have been waiting quite a while for the shipment to arrive from Salifert. On our last shipment, we only received 1/4 of the calcium test kits that we ordered so those were sold out pretty much the week they arrived. We have checked with numberous suppliers and none have these test kits in stock. We have also communicated with Habib and understand that he is trying his best to get these test kits to us ASAP. We apolgize for this delay. If you are in need of a calcium test kit right away, the LaMotte or SeaChem would be good alternatives.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Sincerely,
Joseph
Marine Depot Customer Service.

I noticed this thread while searching this board.

Please allow me to add something to it. :)

The demand for Salifert kits has been increasing tremendously and can result in a shortage. We are doing our best to correct this situation.

At the end of last year and early this year we were faced with very lengthy (weeks!) custom clearance procedures before shipments were allowed to leave Holland and allowed to leave the port/airport in the USA.

That is now fortunately no longer the case and that takes now only a few days.

It however did mess up the predictions of sales and required number of pieces in stock at our end.

I think that the current situation (today) is that there might be a shortage of only calcium kits. We have plenty of reagents sitting to be packed in boxes but are out of boxes and the new ones will be in on July the 25th. We should have had them much earlier and is beyond our control.

The last shipment which arrived a few days ago in the USA did contain some calcium kits in ziplock bags.

Coming Tuesday another shipment should arrive and includes MANY calcium test kits in a box different then you might be used to and has a label with the date of manuf. and an apology for using a different box.

After the 25th of this month everything should be back to normal very soon.

Habib,

Thanks for the explanation and for your honesty in admitting the problem. I'm gald to see a good manufacturer rewarded with enough business to cause shortages. I'm also glad that the problem is only temporary. I'll be sure to submit my order to Marine Depot and run to my LFS to buy one of his last remaining Calcium test kits before he runs out too.

Jeff:

You're welcome. :)
Thanks for understanding the situation.:)

One of the ladies here just reported the number of calcium kits for the USA market which are now ready for shipment.

We will try to get them by coming Monday or Tuesday in the States. :)

To add something more to my previous post.
I have seen posts in which people did order more than one of e.g. the calcium kit and flatworm exit because of the shortage due to the lenghty custom clearances previously.

If that did happen often then that too could have made the situation more worse.
