I don't think thats it. It takes more drops the more organics there is. So for little to no organics 1 drop should do it.

I dont think there is a way to add a half drop,the drops are already quite small.
But,you must put the two test vials (one with the reagents and one without the reagents for comparison) against a white background,because the yellow color is quite faint/pale and you want to detect the slightest change in the best way.

If I remember correctly from Chem class, you portion out half a drop (so it is hanging, but not ready to drip), then touch it to the side of the vial. Then swirl the vial to pick it up
