Salt to new 90

Did you already add the sand and rocks? You should have mixed the salt into the water in buckets and then dumped it into the tank. If you have sand and try to mix in salt, then your going to create a sandstorm.

Uh oh.... THis doesn't sound too good...

You should have mixed the salt in a bucket and then added it to your tank at the proper salinity.

Do you have anything in your tank right now? or just the water??

No just water I've allready set it up and tore it down three times making sure my sump was performing proper.
90 aga megaflow
30 gal sump made after melv's under his 55
iwaki 1000
EV-180 w/ mag 7
Lites on the way

if you are starting a new tank i dont see a problem in just dumping the salt into a high flow section of your sump, just dont put it in the return section, idk if it would mess up the pump. Of course you will need to wait to take any readings but if you dont want to mix salt in a seperate bucket i think this method would be ok for a new tank. I think on instant ocean it gives you a place to start on the amount of salt, 1/2 cup per gallon. dont know what salt your using but this might help you get close faster. If in doubt mix it a little lower cause its alot easier to add more salt then take some water out and put some fresh in if your sg was too high.

Anyone think this would be a bad idea?

the more flow the faster it will disolve, do you have a few power heads? Do you have and substrate in there yet? If you have power heads and no substrate you could just pour it into the display and angle the powerheads down a little bit.

i just got done salting my 55gal i setup and i put the salt in my sump where my water comes in first which is also my skimmer section. This seemed to work well. I had sand in the display so dumping it in there wasnt a option

well with no power heads i would put the salt in the sump. I think it would dislove alot faster. I would put it in the section where the water first comes in and idk if it matters if the skimmer is on or not. I dont see how it could hurt it. How many gph are you moving through the sump?

If theres not subrate and you just started the tank and then the salt and mix it up in the tank. You just don't want to this when you add sand, fish, and ect. For now on pre-mix the salt in with the water in a sperate container and then add the water to the tank.

The iwaki 30 pumps 1000 gpr but with the 13ft of plumbing I have it should be down to 700 or so per hr. the baffles in my sump i can see the water flow is pretty strong the water humps over the glass about 3/16 to a 1/4 inch kinda cool loking

Folks please, he only has water in his tank.
Just close your overflow valve and dump the salt into the water. After 30min or so, turn on your powerheads and that will help dissolve the salt.
This can only be done in a new tank with nothing else in it, other than water. The tank works as any big container where you normally mix salt.

I did the same

I did the same

I started my 90 gallon with RO water only. I got eveything circulating, no skimmer just a sump and a fuge. There was no livestock or sand anywhere in the aquarium. I just added cup fulls @ a time and let it dissolve and eventually tested my salinity and I was done, no premixing in buckets, it was actually a lot easier, but this can only be done without any livestock!!!

I had two 800 gph pumps and two seio 820's, the salt dissolved very fast!!!
