Sand bed depth?

Because my systems do better with no sand. You will notice that the 150 DT at the shop is slowly loosing sand
It was put in there against my will and as I expected a cyano outbreak has slowly started to crop up but not for long. I expect the tank to go BB in about another month or two.

I've been barebottom for almost 4 years.
I like the fact I can control how clean or dirty a system runs. I love the look of a shallow sand bed but this way is just easier for me.
I did keep about 1/2" in my aquapod but pulled it after about a year and a half. I'll replace it eventually....maybe.
One thing to remember is there is more to running a barebottom tank than just taking the sand out. Just like there is more to running a sand bed than just throwing sand in the tank.

I have about 3/4 inch of sand,(i like the look) only thing is I CAN NOT GET HAIR ALGEE OUT OF MY TANKKKKKKKKKKKKK. I slowly took out the bio balls, would it help if I reduced the sand bed? And yes, I do water changes, have a skimmer and dont overfeed. Just cant seem to get it out. I live the light on 7 hours dailey, maybe a little more on weekends.

wvcleaner, it would be good if you started a separate thread about you algae problem I know you will get a lot or responses on it I have many questions for you
