Sand Question ???

Hey whats going on, I currently have about 2 inches of sand in the bottom of my 55 gallon tank and I want to add more sand, I bought the tank from a buddy with the sand already in it and I'm not sure what kind is it, But If I were to buy some sand from the LFS and just add it to the tank slowly with the filter's off then I should be alright... RIGHT ??? Is it ok to just mix in together after it settles and then turn my pumps back on ???

What kind of sand do you have now? What size, that is?

I'm not sure of the name but it's real small proably like sugar grain I would say...

In my opinion, sugar is too small. Go with the next size up. Sugar size (I've heard) tends to get like concrete over time. But yeah, just add it over the top of what's in there. Try not to disturb what's there too much, though. It can cause a cycle.

K yea the size that I'm buying is alittle bigger and looks alot better than whats in their, I almost took out all the sand I have in their but didn't want to lose and good bacteria that may be in the sand, so the next great thing to do I thought was to but the sand that I wanted and kinnda of cycle it threw the old stuff untell their is more new sand that I'm buying then what was in their...
