there is a brand called novus out there for scrathes, the sander is fine I work for an exhibit company and we use alot of acrylic I actually built my sump. We took a sander put a rag on the base and used the novus paste to remove scratches
I used a Ryobi 5" orbital sander from Home Depot $40 with micromesh sandpaper from peachtree woodworks (about $15). First I sanded the scratches completely out with 400 and 600 grit wet dry, then followed with micromesh paper. I then polished the plastic with Novus 2. I ordered the Novus ( 8 oz. of 1,2 and 3 in a kit) for about $17. I applied the Novus with a Porter cable car buffer but others have used the Ryobi polisher from HD $20.
