Saw the most expensive fish in a local aquarium this week. Any guesses?

Certain arrowanas can fetch in the 5 figures, however the fish that beats them all is the koi. In the Guiness Book of World Records, a champion koi sold in the MILLIONS!!!!!! You can hear reports of some selling in the 6 digits also.

Yes people have WAAAAAAAAAAY TOO MUCH MONEY!!!

I actually met a lady so in to kois she would travel all the way to Japan to hand pick them from the farms and bring them back. Her koi collection is valued in the millions and actually has a security guard watch over her pond 24/7.

Some people have just way to much money... If I personally had that much money to spend on my aquaruim it would become a pool/reef... Not just on a fish... I can see the micros and acros now...

Hey atleast sombody is getting the money, that lady that just died and left her dog 25 million........ now thats insane..... I can handle a few $80k fish compared to that.

Wheres the IRS when you need them.... I think that dog needs to be audited. He spent the last 5 years tax free when he was really a millionair, Give it to the school system =]

It is funny that some post that $80K is too much for a fish because you could feed starving kids with it or whatever. Some people have too much money was also mentioned.

However, it is all depends on your frame of reference. For others without a proper home and shelter, a $10K or $20K reef setup with a $100 fish or coral might seem nutty when that $10K could feed and shelter starving children here.

If they can afford the fish, I think that's great, just as I think it's great that the RC members can afford their tanks.

Just a thought,

Joyce

If you make $200K per year, then $300 for a fish may seem reasonable. If you are homeless $300 may seem silly. If you make $100 billion a year, $80K may seem reasonable. The owner of that fish probably gets as much enjoyment watching it as we all get watching ours. The price and perspective are all relative. Here on RC $80K seems a bit high:)!!

One of my LFS here had a Black Tang that they were selling for $500. It wouldn't have been too bad except the tang had MAJOR ich infestation it looked like a Gem Tang! It was already on its side gasping for air but for some reason, someone still bought it..

People with money = unstoppable

How can anyone in good conscience offer 80 grand for a fish wile children around the world are starving to death. Has the world gone profanity removed insane? Think of all the good you could do with 80 grand.

Welllll you can say that to someone who spends even 1000 on a nano tank, sooooo....
