Saying goodbye to my 5-year-old tank

In a few months I’ll be starting a new position with my company, which requires a lot more traveling. Needless to say I won’t be able to provide the kind of care that a reef setup demands. I’ll sell / give away everything in several stages to minimize stress to both corals and fish. Pictures to follow shortly.

Stage one â€"œ selling all of live rock with encrusted corals. I do have several frags and larger (free-standing) colonies for sale, but the rest of corals are all encrusted onto Tongan Branch live rock. I’ll leave it to a new owner to decide whether to frag the colonies or not. So for the price of premium live rock you get awesome corals as well. About live rock â€"œ absolutely positively no Aptasia, a bit of Valonia (a few larger ones) but not invasive at all; no flat worms of any kind or RBs. One shelf-type rock harbors an ever growing (multiple colonies) of dwarf kelp (the stuff you’ll find in tropical reefs). This kelp growth in my tank acts like a natural phosphate / nitrate remover. There are probably about 80-90 #s of rock in my tank (mostly Tonga with some Fiji). Asking price 6.00 / lb. If you need to see the rock before deciding on a purchase you’re more than welcome to stop by.

About the encrusted corals:
Pink and Green (ORA) Birdsnest; solid purple and “Granny Smith”caps; purple (and I mean purple) and green Digitatas with awesome growth form; blue cali tort; metallic green thin-branch stag; very nice lime green with purple tips frag (name?); yellow-tipped Porites (encrusting at good rate); pink Pocilopora;

Free-standing frags / colonies for sale:
23-Head Hammer coral â€"œ the oldest coral in my tank â€"œ translucent metallic green with pink/purple highlights. Voracious eater. It’ll need something bigger than a 90 very soon. Asking price 70.00; Pink with purple polyps Birdsnest colony â€"œ 4.5” in diameter â€"œ 30.00; Greenish tabling acropora frag on magnetic plug â€"œ 15.00; Green Birdnest frag â€"œ 2.5” â€"œ 15.00; Large Green-Red Favia (needs shade for best coloration) â€"œ 40.00

Stage two â€"œ parting with fish and inverts:
Ideally, I’d like this to take place right after Stage 1 is over. It sucks even thinking about parting with them. That’s why I won’t sell them â€"œ I’ll give them away to a good home. All fish are very healthy, no ich or parasites. Here’s fish list: False Clown â€"œ big and a voracious eater â€"œ 2nd oldest fish; six-line wrasse, purple back pseudo-chromis (learned to be a communal fish); large blue chromis â€"œ the oldest fish in my tank; Yellow-eye Kole Tang; Flame Angel â€"œ model citizen and chunky â€"œ great appetite for anything meaty and loves picking at benthic sponges. Included with fish are all the good food that I use(d) to feed them. Inverts are various snails, hermit crabs, huge black bristle star (never bothered anything) and Hawaiian grey sand cucumber (living reef vacuum).

About live sand â€"œ there’s probably about 200 #s of sand in my tank â€"œ it’s free.

Stage three will be equipment sell off / give away.

Guys / gals, the people who dealt with me before in this hobby know me as a no nonsense guy. I keep it real and play fair. Just so we’re clear - whoever makes an offer first or claims a free item(s) gets it â€"œ so please use ReefCentral’s portal to communicate your wishes â€"œ that way ReefCentral will have a date / time stamp on our communications.

Have any questions please feel free to contact me through reefcentral.

Sincerely,

Arthur.

schoolreefer - will take all the fish. Do you want the starfish and sand cucumber?

yes, this is for school, so if you want a tax deduction on all fish you are able to, pm with with that, and the amount you want deducted. Thanks so much

As promised a few quick pics of what's in the tank. Pardon all that coralline algae on tank's walls - tank needs some serious scraping. Thank you all for your interest and your comments. I'll post replies later tonight. The nori clip is for quick color correction / reference. ;) I recently changed 2 of the 6 T5 bulbs so some corals are displaying slightly lighter coloration.

Left side. Notice that favia needs even more shade (compare colors at its base and top).

Center and right side. Notice the 4-rock pillar (on right) with that kelp rock on top.

wow beautiful tank!!!
Hammer is huge.
I think it's too big for my 90
will stick with just the birdsnest and favia if possible
thanks

coralnut99 - I hope you never find yourself in the same position I recently found myself in; parting with something you've put a lot of love and labor in is always hard. Both caps are encrusted onto live rock and I am sorry but my schedule won't allow any travel time - even weekends are booked in advance for my daughter, relatives and friends. If you're still interested in pink Birdnest and the Hammer just let me know as soon as you can - there're several interested parties.

tydtran - you're always welcome to stop by. PM me for time.

deeez - you're second in line for Hammer.

NJReefGeek - sand is yours (it might take a while to get to sand removal time); you're second in line for Birdnest colony.

Reefvette - please let me know when are you planning on stopping by for your green table acro.

Bill, thank you for the info - I sure am will keep that in mind.

Tsunami, you're first for Red & Green Favia and 3rd for BNest.

schoolreefer - to get to the fish I'll have to sell LR first - fish give away is Stage 2. I'll let you know when this time comes.

Thank you guys / gals for your interest. Just to reiterate - I won't be able to travel - something that at this time junction is just purely impossible. Would it be fair to ask of an interested party (the 1st in line) to make their decision within say 48 hours? That way everyone would have a fair chance. If you're certain of your intent to purchase then drop me a line of a time that is convenient for you and I'll do my best to accommodate you.

tazmanian_cowboy - thanks for your PM. Tried replying to it but your PM mailbox is full.
