I know scallops are extreamly hard to keep and i would never buy one but i took a big LR from the beach to put my tank and a small scallop came w/ it. I havent feed it but it has been a month or so that its in my tank. I know flame and electiric scallops are planktonic but are there any non-planktonic scallops?
Because you know scallops have lots of long, very thin tentacles and mine has too but on these tentacles there are few flouracent green dots, can this be Zooxanthellae and can it be a photosynthesis scallop?
I havent seen any scallops before so i dont know if all of them have these shining dots? BTW the shell is very dull coloured

Hi Salem,

All scallops are filter feeders. If you can provide for their nutritional requirements, they will do just fine in an aquarium.
The little flourescent green dots are actually eyes. Though not well developed, these eyes can detect sudden changes in light (ie. a passing shadow) and thus aids them from predators. Sedentary species, cemented to part of the reef, merely shut their valves down tightly. Mobile species may flee the scene.

Cheers,
Bob
