What is you guys thought on have a school of Royal Grammas in a 210. Maybe three, that should be alright I'm thinking.

Bad ideah there super territorial toward's there own specie's and guard there dart hole's ferrociously. If you have lot'sa rock and places for them to hide so they dont come into contact with each other. You might be OK but dont quote me on that. I prefer to keep them singly

I think if done properly you can establish a harem, not sure where I read that though...

Chromis is a much better idea for school. Gramma's don't school, grammas fight. P.S, I see your in New Orleans, how are things down there now? better I hope.

I have two in my 180gal for about a year now with no problem. I put them both in at the same time. They hang out together on the same side of the tank. I wouldnt see a problem with it.

It's slow going, but going. Thanks for asking.

I thought it would work being that my tanks is a 7' tank. I'm going to get three and see how it goes.

I read something on this just recently. The suggestion was to purchase all of the grammas from the same tank at the LFS. If a gramma has had a tank to itself for any period of time, it becomes males and will fight with the others. However, if they were collected together and maintained as a group in a single LFS tank, you should be fine with multiples in a large tank.

I'm thinking of giving this a try in my 250 as well.

Just got three yesterday, the picture below shows two. The other hangs out on the other end. I don't think they know the other exist. Can't waite till they get comfortable.

I was diving in Belize and saw several harems of royal grammas. They were all in/around either a giant head of coral or huge sponges (if i remember correctly). Must have been 7-12 together. A beautiful sight.

Are three grammas enough to form a "school"? The harems I've seen while diving were always a half dozen or more. Some of the males were quite aggressive and totally fearless- they didn't think twice about about darting towards my mask in an attempt to nip at my eyes!

I would be worried that two grammas will pair off and the third end up taking the brunt of the pair's aggression. Please keep us posted- I'm curious to see how this works out.

Have to correct the chromis myth. They school when young and then the two dominant fish kill the rest. You will always end up with 2 after a few months.

How do they pair?

Well, the male will usually flash something expensive in the females general direction, and then it just sort of happens. That, or the female notices the male's got laundry laying around and naturally starts picking it up. Yes, nature is mysterious and wondrous... :)

Okay so you can't really tell then which is a male and which is a female and they will pick on each other, regardless of the sex, until spawning time comes?
