Schuran reactor pump leaking

I bought a used Jetstream 1 and the pump has broken in shipping. I got a new Eheim 1250, but it leaks quite a bit from the inlet side of the pump housing(around the o-ring). Two questions, is the pump supposed to be attached to the back board? The one I have isn't. Second, is there anything special about the pump or installing it?

Thanks for any help.

mine is not attached to the backboard. It says in my instructions that the pump is a unmodified pump. Hope this helps.

Thank you for the info. I got a new 1250, but it is leaking from around the piece with the o-ring. Have you taken the pump off and reinstalled it? Any problems with leaks when putting it back together?

A LFS that carries Schuran reactors suggested putting a bead of silicone around the o-ring. Has anyone tried that for leaks?
