Sea Hairs, do they eat hair algae?

Do Sea Hairs eat hair algae, and are they the best option for eating it quickly? My 75 gallon is over run. I beleive I fixed the cause, excessive nitrates, and Phosphates, but now I need to rid the algae itself. Is a Sea Hair my best bet, and why?

Thanks

Dan

It is my understanding that Sea Hares are probably the best hair algae eaters out there. So much so that they will starve to death in most tanks because they can eat it faster than it grows. Most recommend passing the Hare on to someone new once it has done its job. Perhaps your thread should be "Can I buy/borrow your Sea Hare once your done".

That is great news, as I have tried everything, from snails to crabs to edfords, and blennys. Nothing would touch it. Let's hope these guys will. I have two different types a black one with turguise spots and a tan one. The balck one does not seem interested in it either, and I just got the tan one. I hope he likes it.

Sea Hares do indeed eat hair algae, but will starve to death after it is all eaten. If you have 2,it won't take long.Start looking now for someone who has an algae problem so you can pass them on to a food source when your tank is cleaned out of algae. We had one and it cleaned out the hair algae out of our 125 reef in less than a month, then disappeared(died)a short time later. We tried feeding it sheet algae like our Tangs eat,he ate it,but I guess that wasn't enough.Good luck.

yeah i would look for people that you can pass this along to way before you attempt to buy one. they are great at eating hair algea and will starve when it's all gone.

If you've truly got the nitrate and phosphate out of the system (including out of the LR), then a toothbrush and net will do just as good without the hassle and expense.
