Sea Hare

Can anyone tell me of any experience they have had with sea hares. Just bought one to try to get rid of some hair algae and was wondering what experiences everyone had with them.

I had one and It did a very good job at removing all the hair algae from my tank. After the hair algae was gone I feed it a sheet of Nori every other day. One day I overheard some looking for one at my LFS they don't stock them so I offered to give him mine. Last I herd his tank was clean and he was planing to pass it on to a friend of his.

Unless you have massive amounts of hair algae that needs to be cleaned off the rocks and such, please don't buy one. They will quickly starve to death unless fed at least once every two days on a large portion of Nori or hair algae. I have had mine since July of last year and have to feed it sheets of Nori on occasion when all the hair algae and other algaes are gone. Make sure you cover your overflows and your power head intakes as well as they can get sucked in and don't let go very easily once they do.

Thanks alot, thing seems pretty cool, big slug looking thing, i already feed my tangs nori, so that isn't a problem.

My Sea Hare story makes me sad :(

I went and bought a Sea Hare - basically straight off of the truck that had just delivered at my LFS - and acclimated him for a few hours - and put him in the tank. I placed him on a rock...

He was on the same rock the next morning - hadn't moved...
I tried to poke him to see what was going on (and by poke I mean gently move)....

Next thing I know - purple clouds were filling the tank...
And he did move.... yup.... Sea Hare sure moved...

Well - his body moved - it fell of the rock...
However his head remained on the rock.... without his body...

And Ive been to scared to try them again...
Which SUCKS because I reallly really need and want one...

I've also heard that they don't ship very well at all - so next time I will wait to take it home until it's been in the store for awhile...

:(
