SeaChem Salt ALK levels off the scale.

I started adding kalk to my ATO RO water. Dosed 4tsp/5gal. From Thursday - Sunday, Alk went from 7.8dkh - 10.2dkh. I did not think kalk could be used to raise alk. So I decided to test new saltwater from my LFS. The Salifret ALK test kit says it is 16dkh. Anyone else seen this from SeaChem salt? I retested my tank and it is still 10.2dkh.

Oh, yes, overdosing limewater will push pH and alkalinity too high.

That's why I don't care for the line that it is only used to maintain things.

The big thing it cannot do is boost calcium substantially, and that is because alk and pH would skyrocket.

Good to know. I knew it would raise PH. But what about the high reading on "new" aged Saltwater made from RO and SeaChem? It is reading 16dkh. That has me thinking that the increased alk was not from the limewater.

You might be seeing the effects of some settling in the salt. You could try mixing it up thoroughly and seeing whether that fixes the problem.
