Shaving Brush Algae

Can anyone tell me anything about the shaving brush (macro) algae? I ordered a few from a guy on ebay, and they should be here pretty soon.

How do they reproduce?
Are they very good at absorbing ammonia/nitrates?
Do they require iron dosing?

They seem to be springing up quite a bit. Calcium is a must for them, they seem to be good at reducing Nitrates.

They reproduce by creating runners off the main stem.

I see acres and acres of the stuff growing in very shallow water in Aruba and none of it in water over about 15' deep which leads me to believe it needs plenty of light.
