man, i'm really confused on this one???

almost all over the net, people say there is only one species of Elegance coral: Catalaphyllia Jardinei

however, some say there's a kind of short tenticle elegance called Catalaphyllia Picteti or Euphyllia Picteti

does anyone know the truth?

There is only one family and one species in the family. Elegance corals react to environmental conditions by altering their posture. This is why you can find long tentacle and short tentacled Elegance in the wild. Be very careful about buying an Elegance under the Picteti name. There are online dealers that use this name to explain why their sick Elegance corals look different than others. The definition of a Picteti is an Elegance with short tentacles and a mild sting. These are symptoms of an Elegance that is not healthy, and not evidence of a different species. I can take any of these Elegance corals that are placed under the Picteti name and in time turn them into an Elegance with long tentacles and a very powerful sting. Because we can not cause an animal to change it's species, an Elegance that has changed from what is called a Picteti into what would be called a Jardinie must have always been a Jardinei. An Elegance that is sick or injered will reduce the production of venom in order to use the available resources on more important biological process, like healing. This is why one of the first signs that an Elegance is in trouble is in the power of its sting. I have a tank full of Elegance corals that some people would call Picteti. They have short tentacles and a very mild sting. They are slowly regaining their sting and their tentacles are getting longer. There is no such thing as a Picteti in any family.

oh that's my guess too. thanks for your input

i have one elegance under picteti name with short tentacles, it's hanging in there, altho it experienced the swollen oral disc and deminished tentacles symdrome thing and split out its color thing a couple months ago when the summer heat struck. after installing chiller and temp stablized once again, it returned to how it looked when bought. hopefully it'll "become" Jardinie in time

thanks again ; )
