Im debating driving to bloomington sun to see the mad reefer. It is over a two hour drive for me so I would like to know if it is worth the trip. How is there selection/service. Also is there any othe lfs to visit while i am there

probably depends on your expectations.

for me, i would probably be happy. ...but henry doesn't think it's worth a 45 min drive from champaign.

so i dunno.

they usually have good stock on fish, although they're not usually the staple fish you're used to seeing stocked at a lfs. lots of softies and lps, some sps.

just depends on what you're after...

They do get a nice selections in, but I have not seen too much out of the ordinary but then again I dont' know what you are used to in your area. But this is just my opinion.

If you do decide to make the drive make sure you come on a day when they have a new shipment in. They seem to turn over their products quicker than they can get new items in.

they get shipments on mondays now, so sunday might not be the most ideal time to go...

just a thought.

I think they have great service! I am just setting up my tank again a little differently this time and they seem more than happy to talk about anything, and give advice.

They have a pretty good selection right now, lots of corals still there and a lot of fish still, I was just there a couple hours ago, and Thursday they are getting more. They have maybe 30 cool brains right now, a ton of leathers and loads of toadstools. They have umteen bazillion shrooms, some pretty nice ones at that. They have some really cool rainbow colored brains right now too, I almost got one today, it was very cool and the color was out of this world. They have blastos too if you are looking for those. Well lets just say they have a lot of stuff right now and yes a trip there would be worth it.

I would say they have a better sellection than any place that I have been within 100 miles of Bloomington. St. Louis has some stores that are better and so does Chicago but not all of them. I would make the drive on Thursday for the best sellection. What is better in the Champaign then TMR?

Henry was talking about inland aquatics which is another state. There prices are very high.

TMR is starting to get some nice fish in, they carry a lot of stuff you don't see else where around this area. Like others have said I wouldn't make the trip unless they just got a shipment in, I would call ahead.

Their stock seems to sell fast esspically the fish, I just picked up three really nice Anthias that eat in their tanks and had been there for three weeks and are doing well in my tank so far.

There limiting factor right now is they are only getting stuff from the red sea and indo areas.

And don't forget the best thing of all they will price match anything off the internet which makes them the cheapest place anywhere.

Well, I just heard a rumor tonight.. I heard that TMR gets all of their fish from Indo. And that Indo collections people use cyanide(or something like that) to collect their fish? Could be wrong, but thats what i heard from some professor. Not trying to start a fight at all, just curious if its true?

sorry man.. Just what i heard.. sorry in advance if its incorrect at all as it did not come from me. Just spreading what I heard in the form of a question

Jazz, I have no clue if they use cyanide over there in Indo, but yes TMR does get most of thier livestock currently from Indo. Infact I think everything up until now has been from Indo. Though the other day they did say they were going to get some stuff in from Hawaii. Not sure if that ever happend or not.

The distributar he uses gets all his stuff from Indo but was suppose to start getting LS from Fiji, Hawaii etc.... but I'll believe it when I see it.

Well if Cyanide is used then the fish will not live long. The people who have tanks that have fish that are years old will know what the problem is. This will cause a problem for TMS since thoes in the hobby will stop buying fish from him.

Oh man I am in trouble then, I baught a nice tang last night and had him with white rice and lemon. 8(

Lets not all jump to any conclusions here though guys. I find it unlikely that EVERY distrubutor in the Indo area does this, even if it is common there. I am all about pointing out ways a business can improve, but atm there is no proof that thier fish have been collected in that manner and we shouldnt make any assumptions. I know my fish I got from them has been healthy since day one....
