Show Me Your Best Colors!!!

Sorry I don't know the "fancy" names corals are getting these days. What's a "pink lemonade"?, beside a refreshing drink during the summer months, .

The coral is an Acropora sp. (I'm not killing it to ID the skeleton), it is bright yellow with purple polyps. Maybe someone better at coral morphology can chime in with the actual species ID, :) .

solbby

my first guess would A. nasuta

dont think you will find pink lemonade in any books....

If you weren't an Aggie I would ask to come see your tank. :D

If you wouldnt get lost on the way you would be more than welcome...

It's nice to see that there are other colors out there other than the nice brown and rust color pieces that all our LFSes have.

Question for everyone posting pictures... Have you purchased the majority of you corals on line, off RC, at LFS, or got them thru buddies? I'm trying to find the best way to select and get corals that are different form the usual I see in my area and club.

I do ebay and frags.org mostly. Some locals with nice stuff. At least your lfs has those. Mine never had anything but lps or softies. They closed last month.

Believe it or not , most of mine came from a few LFS's in my area. Two of my nicest frags were actually a frag sold from his main colony from home where he had ordered it from a wholesaler. So I have 5 varieties and never had to ship any of them. I will say that I am very lucky for sure. I am waiting on two more colors for my Millie forest but they are here local also, I am just waiting for the hobbyist to frag them again.
I just started on the store owners about I thoughts on a Millie forest and they began ordering a few here and there for me. I called one yesterday and he told me he got a red millie that did not look good during shipment but is now turning neon Red. I will be there this week, I will take a few pics and see how accurate that statement is, I will say that is where I got the hot pink millie from and the bright green millie.

I just noticed this is the color thread not the millie thread, So I will continue to brag on the LFS's here. I also got the rainbow monti (colony) , and the cyphstrea decida (small colony) , Yellow montipora vietnamensis (frag) , green slimer (bright green), blue slimer , many many different rare zoa frags and a few very nice colored lps. But I have 4 different stores here and they all are alert and active on the pests we encounter and treat regularly for red bugs, flat worms, aptaisia , majanos, and so far have never had the Acro eating flatworms (Hope they never do get any, I will be crushed)

If anyone would like to see pictures, They let me take pics in all the stores I visit aroudn here. Super nice guys and gals.

as far as buying the crazy color crazy priced pieces I never have. I buy decent pieces and brown outs. you can always look a little closer at brown acros and sometimes see something everyone else is passing up. I have the same one in the first shot solbby has that I purchased as a decent size colony for $25 because nobody else would even look at it. it was dark brown with bright purple polyps. of course the polyps were barely sticking out so most people couldn't imagine it would turn nice. I have been doing this way too long to be suckered by color and extremely inflated prices. the statement RARE should be taken from all saying they have it as crap. remember hundreds of other good fair people out there have the same exact coral. funny thing is they probably live in your neighborhood and would be more than willing to share. acanthastrea was rare until the divers figured out some not so smart people were willing to pay an arm and a leg for something very marginal looking. they are not rare just not collected as much. same with "rare" clownfish and acro's and monti's and anemones or whatever. sorry I had to rant but I am tired of people over inflating with the rare label. look on ebay for rare and you get ipod's they made a billion of. be smart people
