I was kidding about killing mine. And yes it is ridiculously aggressive. I'd guess the furthest coral it burned for me was 8-9" away, just ridiculous.

Is this coral very aggressive with sweepers? Try to figure out if I have enough room. Flow and light?

Uberaggressive, but still one of my favorite corals. They are pretty adaptable as far as light and water flow, but I have had the best luck with pretty intense light (mine have grown best about 12" from a 250wt halide) and a moderate flow. The length of the sweeper tentacles seems to increase as the waterflow gets stronger, so keep that in mind; keep it at least 8+ inches away from any coral you dont want to get stung to death.

Mine will catch small pieces of Mysis shrimp pretty regularly; I dont know how much of it is actually ingested, but I always offer it just to be safe.

I moved mine from the botton of my 24ap to the top about 2'' from the water surface ever since i tossed in my acan lord and yuma i have had sweepers a good 10inches and they seem to know what side the lord is on too

I agree with everyone else that they have a powerful sting, but if you keep them in low flow spots, or strategically place them so the current takes the sweepers away from other corals they can be part of your reef family :)

Here are a couple of mine...

This one is at least 12" long and wraps over both sides of the rock. It would be larger than a dinner plate if it was flat. This is the "Tub's Radiant" galaxea from www.exoticreefs.com, grown from a quarter size frag. If you look closely you'll notice it stung the cyphastrea below it... yeah I've been lazy and have not fragged it back in a while.

A friend gave me this one as a small frag from his colony, it's a branching species. It is a slow grower but looks amazing when it forms a colony (think shaggy acropora). This little guy is mounted on a vertical surface and growing outward. I haven't seen too many branching species in the hobby.

Heres mine. I have had it 2yrs and it sits in the bottom of the tank. I put it in the middle so its sweepers wont touch anything and it gets moderate flow. I got it when it first came in at a LFS and it looked kind of sad. It had a streak of missing heads right through the middle and along the back. It has since grown immensely and filled right back in. It was my "First" coral that I bought for my then 65g. Its about 8.5" x 5.5" now

wow phyxius that galaxea is nice! i just got mine, but i hope that it will look as nice as yours. its sweepers are not fully out on mine. how long does it take for them to fully come out?

During the day not many of the sweepers come out. There may be a few 2" ones here and there. At night with just the actinics on or with moonlights it can throw many more out and like others have said and can get to 10" long. Give yours some time to adjust to new tank, lights, flow and etc and then you will see them start to come out.

You might get a kick out of this picture my 12yr old took with his new camera we got him for xmas. How about a close up pic of one. It shows the colored tips as well as the plain white tips.

As long as I keep a constant med to high flow bursts, she keeps the sweepers in, if I turn pumps off to clean and turn them back on, the sweepers will be out in full force

I'm with Mike. I keep it on the bottom of the tank. Sweepers can't touch anything, though I rarely see any sweepers of any significance. Plus mine has three white barnacles in it (very cool contrast in color).
