Sickly Doughnut Coral

My doughnut coral doesn't seem to be doing well--it's deflated and the mouth is hanging open.

Water Parameters:

pH: 8.2-8.3
Ammonia: <0.25 ppm
Nitrate: 9 ppm
Phosphate: 0 ppm
Calcium: 400 ppm
dKH: 12.3

Temperature: 70Ã"šÃ‚° (This may be the problem)
Specific Gravity: 1.0245

I use MH lights, so lighting shouldn't be the issue.

I'd post a picture if I could re-size the image.

I've heard of a lot of different corals being referred to as a "doughnut". Are you talking about a Cynarina or a Scolymia perhaps?

If so they are not as light demanding of a coral as you might think. Is it new to the tank? Well acclimated to the light? Is it on the sand bed?

Two things, you should have no measurable ammonia and yes 70 degrees is scary low!

Also, they take meaty foods. If it's in ill healthy a good feeding will be needed to help speed it's healing process.

I'm fairly certain that it's a Scolymia; it's fairly new to the tank and on the DSB. I'll try feeding it some brine shrimp and see if it helps

thanks,

I recently intoduced a Scolymia to my tank. Didn't inflate for 2-1/2 weeks and was looking worse by the day, but always ate well. In any case I was discussing my situationover the phone with a new guy at my LFS. We talked about water and lighting, and out of the blue he asked me if any of my fish were harassing the coral. Just about then my pearl scaled angel fish took a nip at him on his way by, as he always does. Took the coral out and for now moved him into the refuge in the sump. While after a week he is not back to his original self he is a thousand percent better.
Nicely inflated although not totally to where he was when I bought him, but getting there day by day.
