simple question about temp calibration

I have one more question about temp calibration this time.

I recently hit Init Memory on my AC Jr, and I noticed that my temp reading are off a couple of degrees from where they were before. I checked in the Temp Calibration menu and saw that it was set with an offset of 0.5 degrees.

Is this the default offset for all controllers, or is this value tied to the temp sensor that I got?

If this is just a default, how can I determine the true offset value for my temp sensor? Does Neptune keep a record of that information?

0.5 is the default value. You'll have adjust the temperature on the AquaController to match an accurate reference. No, we don't have a log of the temperature probe offsets.

OK Thanks.

Then can you give me a couple examples of acceptable references and where I can get them? Something not too $$?

Hanna makes some relatively inexpensive and accurate digital temp meters. HI 98510 is about $30 and accurate to +-0.5F. They also have a NIST traceable version of the meter for about $70. You can probably find cheaper analog but equally accurate thermometers at a lab supply store.

www.cooperinstruments.com or www.cooper-atkins.com

I have a digital pocket thermometer from them. It carries a lifetime warranty. if it ever fails, you send it in and they send you a replacement. I had that happen once and their service is outstanding.

Grainger carries them among the main distributors.

I can highly recommend the DFP450W

Do you have any other links to the exact products? It looks like some of those are accurate to +/- 2 degrees F. I'm not sure if that is really good enough?

So I guess the best course of action would be to check and record the temp offset when we first receive the AC Jr, prior to doing any programming or other configuration ?

I am glad that I read this thread before starting to set up my AC Jr :)
