sinularia closed looking varnished??

My sinularia is acting kinda strange. Stalk is full and upright as ever, but fingers are completely closed and the entire thing looks like it had a shiny gloss coating on it. Has been this way for about a week. It usually looks like the one behind it in the pic that is a frag from this original. Any thoughts?

He's shedding. Should be back to normal soon.

Thanks Steph. Never heard of that or had any other coral do that. How often does it happen? What is the purpose?

happens often in the spring and fall widespread- do a search and look at dates. I don`t know why. Some leathers will do it monthly, and quickly- some will do it annualy and take a few weeks to come out of it. They will also do it in response to changes in water, flow and lighting qualities. All and all it is normal and to be expected.

You're welcome, and +1 to above. Sometimes they have a hard time getting the slime off in low flow, IME. So, if yours is in a dead zone, and has some attached to it still after it's shed, then just blow it off. Of course, mine has medium flow and doesn't need any help.
