ok so I made my first mistake and picked up a Red Sea Prizm Hang-on Protein Skimmer from marinedepot and hooked it up lastnight and it leaks and leaks and then leaks somemore. im trying to see if marinedepot will take it back and get me a corallife super skimmer instead.

is this the right move???

and do you think they will take it back??

I am not happy with the red sea prizm because right out of the box it leaks.

is the corallife super skimmer a good skimmer?

Is it leaking as a result of damage to the skimmer body?
MD is very good with customer service and product returns.

I recommend the Aqua C series such as an Urchin or Remora.

just got off the phone with them and he said that if i send it back to them and he cant find anything wrong with it that they send it back to me more money out of my pocket.the skimmer is leaking from the colection cup.

so that would be
$10 shipping back to them
10% restocking if they will take it back
$10 shipping back to me if it is ok

so it will be atleast $20 more either way plus a pain in my butt.

Try posting your problem *nicely* on the Marinedepot vendor forum on RC. The folks that they have working the board are pretty helpful and may be able to bend the rules for you a little if you ask nicely. It seems to me like they have gone out of their way on a number of occasions to accomodate irate, and often rude (IMHO) board posters in order to maintain their rep on RC.

PS - I second the recommendation that you consider getting an Aqua-C Remorah Pro w/ the mag drive and skimmer box upgrade for your particular set-up.

If it is leaking at the collection cup, check these things:

Is it overflowing the top of the collection cup? If so, adjust your inlet valve so that there is less going into the collection cup.

Is it leaking at the bottom of the collection cup? If so, is the O-Ring seal in place?

Does the collection cup have a crack in it?

I use a Prizm on my quarantine tank and it does a very good job but it took a week or so to get the feel of it and for it to start producing skimmate.

Feel free to PM me if you have any more questions, I like these skimmers once I figured it out. It just has a learning curve to it.
