Skimmer question

Well after spending weeks reading the forums. I'm starting my tank. Which so far includes a 65gallon tank w/overflow and a refugium.

I do have a question about the skimmer, I would like to place it in my refugium. The refugium I want to setup will have 3 chambers, Water from tank|Refugium| Water to Tank. My question is should I put the skimmer in the water from tank or water to tank chamber?

TIA

Ah, you have a Sump/Fuge combo. Just a Refugium would pretty much be a seperate tank with a way for the water to return.

I would place the skimmer as close to where the water enters the tank as possible. This way the skimmer can collect as much of the surface skimmate from the overflow as possible. In return, this will increase skimmate production. The skimmer will also take in many bubbles produced by the drain pipe and help increase the contact time. A rule of thumb is it takes 120 seconds (two minutes) for the organic proteins to adhear to the surface of the bubble.

I agree. You want to keep bubbles as far away from your return pump as possible. My skimmer is in my refugium because its so small....10gal.
