I have recently got back into marine fishkeeping after an eight year absence. Equipment has chnaged and is far more automated and complicated than I remember.
Everything is going just fine and the setup has been going for 8 days, the tank is 540 litres, 2 external filters, UV, 2x250w halides pendant and a 'Turbofloater Multi SL aquamedic skimmer' this one..

I am having real trouble setting this up, so far I have put an adjustable valve on the air line so the only two variables I have is the air going in and the flow coming out (by two valves) .
Basically the collection cup just fills up within seconds unless I turn the air right down, I have tried playing with the flow out valves but it really doesn't make that much difference. I can just about get the foam to stop approx 2 inches from the top of the collection cup but its still very erratic, this I can understand as its a new set up with declorinator etc. What I cant understand is and what I told my local aquatic shop (who have advised me to keep the skimmer running) is that the output water going back into the tank is just a mass of bubbles, so much so that you cant even see the back of the tank through them!! The output enters the tank underwater so its not even breaking the surface.
Any ideas?, is this normal?, is it just a case of waiting for things to settle down?
Thanks in advance.
