Yes... it's been asked before but I can't remember. I would think not. I always thought you should go bigger than the recommended size of your tank.
 
This is largely a matter of opinion unless your skimmer is barfing out a nice percentage of your tank water on a continual basis.


Some folks use a very heavy wet skim to do their water changes.
 
no. you can not overskim. Get the best skimmer you can. Of course, if you skim wet and do not replace your salt water, your salinity will drop, but this has nothing to do with skimming. By virtue of what a protein skimmer does, it can not "over-do" it.
