Nearly any hydrophobic or amphipathic molecule can be skimmed out to some extent. This list includes amino acids, vitamins, proteins, carbohydrates, fats, many combination biomolecules (e.g., lipoproteins, liposaccharides), RNA, DNA, etc. This list includes most, but certainly not all, organics. So what brands and models of skimmers have visibly removed all or most yellow compounds from your home marine systems without the use of ozone or carbon?
I prefer to hear of first hand experiences or links regarding specific skimmers that have visibly reduced or removed Gelbstoff, Gilvin, or chromophoric dissolved organic matter (CDOM) from an aquarium. Please do not post the following:
• It can’t be done
• You need to use carbon or ozone or massive water changes.
