Skimz skimmer club

Might just be the video but it doesn't look like much air going through. Try opening up the air valve to lower the water level instead of the gate valve

Anyone have any experience with the SN127 with the DC pump? Thinking of getting it for my 40breeder build.

I'm using the sn143 on a 75 that is a holding tank while I set up my new 180, and while it performed well it was a bit undersized for the amount of fish in this system. I ended up putting my Aquamaxx q2 in to keep up.

So depending on your stocking list it will work well but I would suggest going with the sn143. This way if you decide to go with a bigger tank your all set.

I have a sn143-qp

My Skimz makes way too much microbubbles I will be replaceing it wit a aqumaxx or a reef oct,

Your sure it's salt creep. I'm getting dust build up.

It was salt creep getting into the silencer. Most likely the intake silencer mount is too close the the sump water surface, in addition to my Vortec fan blowing across the water, caused this issue. I raised the silencer to a location about the same height as the top of the skimmer cup, and have not had the issue since. Plus I ran an extra hose of the intake (top tube of the silencer) away and out of the sump area for extra measure.

So, I procured a used Skimz Monzter Sm252. Both Eden ES 5000 pumps are bad and need replacement. Has anyone used any other skimmer pump on this external unit? I've searched the site and Google but I haven't seen any DIY replacements. At $160 a pop, a reliable alternative sounds good. Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone, last week I purchased a Skimz SM167 Monzter DC skimmer and am in the process of dialing it in.

I've slowed down the pump from 20 (full speed) to 16, output gate wide open and air screw 3/4 closed.

I am not getting the uniform small bubbles all the way up the neck though, they break up halfway up into bigger bubbles. Though they do push skim over to the collection cup.

I was just wondering if this is ideal and if someone that has experience with these skimmers can let me know if that's how it is supposed to be.

Here's a video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZpv8pLbclA&t=6s.

Thanks in advance

I'm not sure if they would work, but I have an Ehiem 1262 that came off my euroreef 180 as well as a GX-4100 that only has a few weeks of use on it. let me know if you're interested and I'm sure we can work something out.

My best advice is if you buy a Skimz pump, purchase it from BRS as they stand behind what they sell. Aquacave would not stand behind a Skimz SK202 that I purchased from them, the pump went bad after only a couple months and they told me to take it up with Skimz in Singapore, as they would not warranty the pump!.

Hi All,

I have an Monzter SM201 and its been working well.
My issue is that the end cap on the pump is broken (does not have teh cross bar that holds the impellor in) so I am wanting to buy a new DC pump for it.

Do the Jebao DCT 5000 pumps fit in? They do not come with a needle wheel impeller though so I am not sure if it would even work.

I live in Australia so I dont know where I can buy that replacement part if its even available.

Yeah, so it looks like no other pump is a direct fit. I'll have to buy from BRS. :-)

I will be buying the Skimz SM167 for my 65g tank (eventually want to upgrade to a 120) so going with overkill for now. I just replaced the sump with a trigger 30 and the skimmer section should be able to handle it without any issues.

My question is, is the skimmer as good as I've read? Anyone running one that can provide any information. best depth to run, tuning etc...

Thanks...

I have a skimz SM252 EXTERNAL and a SM302 EXTERNAL PROTEIN SKIMMER.

I would NEVER buy them again. Between them I have 5 es 500 pumps on them. As mentioned above they go out time and time again. In 3 years I have now replaced every one of them in the form of 12 pumps. The problem is that the impeller starts to come apart. As it is doing this is shreds the inside of the pump housing. So even if you buy a new impeller at a whopping 100, it will deteriorate very quickly as the inside of the pump housing is not uniform and then the impeller wobbles and deteriorates even faster.

Skimmer works great when new but be prepared to buy a new ES 500 every 18 to 24 months at 150 a pop.

My Es 2800 died, brs doesn't have it any more. Is there another pump I could easily replace it with?
