slime on vlamingi

I just got a vlamingi tang and he has a slime on him that no one seems to be able to cure. The guy I got him from has had him a year and half and he has always had this. Other than the slime, it is very healthy and eats like a horse. He has tried about everything and the only thing he said seemed to help at all was a fresh water dip. That doesn't make sense to me because I don't think it is a parasite problem because he kept it a system treated with copper. Any ideas, I would love to hear them.

I think a photo might help us.

All fish have a slime layer, but most tangs have a very poor slime coating. If there is something irritating the fish causing it to produce extra slime, that is a concern.
