slow down return?

Ball valve on the return line, or use a tee to divert some of the flow back into your sump. I don't know your setup, but either of those methods would work.

To save energy costs though, you may want to consider a smaller pump if the one you have is too powerful.

If you are talking about an OceanRunner 2500 I just replaced my Mag 7 for the OR 2500 and I'm really impressed with the difference between those two pumps. I need it to run externally. Real real quiet, plenty of flow (I don't feel as if it would need to be turned down, but I don't know your system) and it's even cool to the touch, and my tank is only a 65 Tall.

well i havnt even hooked it up yet but the reason i ask is cause when i drilled my tank like an idiot i only drill 1" holes not considering the bulkhead too :/ so i actually have 3/4 " bulkheads and im not sure how many gph they could handle

Ouch.
Can you drill another hole and put in a second bulkhead? Then you can combine the two into a larger diameter pipe.

Thanks, Because i first got an eheim 1250, and i can't find who sells an adapter for the outlet. For the OC 2500 i got everything at lowes. One thing i wanted to have all my pumps to be eheim but i tested both the Eheim 1250 and OC 2500 the OC very very quiet and cool to the touch unlike the 1250 quiet but still not as quiet as the aquabee pump on my skimmer and it was warm to the touch.

Al,
The OR 2500 input and output threads are 3/4 inch. You should be fine. but I think if you use the hose barb, it is actually smaller like 1/2 id...

Hmm now thinking about it, maybe 1/2 id flex tube is equal to 3/4" pvc. Either way, you are fine.

It will not with fit 3/4" I.D. out of the box it needs an adapter, but the good thing there is an adapter for it. i can't find any for the Eheim 1250.

DB, you are probably right, but I think I am using 1/2 id flex tubing and it works. My main point was the his 3/4 bh was enough of a whole for this thing assuming its for the return section.

ok so i just hooked up this ocean runner and no problems (it doesnt need to be slowed down) like i said before i was worried the 2 3/4" bulkheads i have in my overflows wouldnt be able to handle it....now on to the skimmer :D
