Small Observations from Ocen Reefs

My wife & myself went scuba diving the reefs at Key West Florida last week.
Just out of curiosity I got some sand for refugium and some water.
The salinity of the water was 1.030 & the temp was around 80 at the surface.
We maintain SG of 1.025...not that it makes such a huge difference, but any idea on how we came up with this number & parameter?

where was the water taken from? temp seems normal.

i believe something like 1.0264 is the average around the world..who knows now, I'm sure it's headed lower as the caps melt...But it can definetely be higher at different locales. I try to maintain around 1.027 but its usually lower, I skim wet.
