SOLENOID help

I have never worked with a solenoid before. Do i buy a generic 12V DC adapter to power this thing?

USE: to move topoff water from 15g drum to sump ovee the course of a week. I want to open up valve for X-amount of minutes each day (1-2 gals). Id like for my Neptune Apex to control the solenoid open then cliose time

it needs 12v at least 4.8w. A 12v,.5a dc adapter would work. It can be more than .5a as long as its 12v. just cut the end off and splice the wires into the 2 prongs, doesn't matter which one is which. I run 2 of these to control the RODI water to the tank and work great.

There i no information in that amazon listing that indicates this solenoid is safe for RO, DI, or salt water.

Just because it has a plastic body doesn't mean its appropriate.

look at an a/c powered one, do not see the reason to convert 110 ac to 12dc, with a converter when the apex unit is already110 ac. just my two cents.

these valves work well, and they are ss, just order connector.

those things are spendy as heck for just needing to transfer water. the ones on buckeye hydro's site are only around $20 and will work just as good

I have been using AC power solenoid from STC Valve for the last 6 years without a single failure. I use them for fail safes on my ATO line, for my skimmer wash down which is connected directly to a hose spigot and also on my thawed frozen food feeder. All of which are controlled through my Apex. I only use these for fresh water though but they are well made and extremely reliable. I am not aware of any solenoid a that are truly salt water safe short of the pinch style solenoid valves.

These are supposed to be great solenoids as well and from what I understand, they don't get hot. The only downside is the need for an AC Adapeter. They are also available from one of our well regarded sponsors (Buckeye).
