Somewhat OT thinking about getting my 1st tattoo

Don't do it paininthewrasse! At least not that one. It is really girly. Everyone will think you got a tatoo of nemo. Why not just put Dory with him?LOL. You are going to have to think of a way to man that up some. I don't know, put a beer in his fin...I don't think there is really any way to make a clown fish masculine. Pick something else unless you are gay (not that there is anything wrong with that). You will have to live with it forever.

I have a couple tats on my back and I like them there. After a while the novelty of a tatoo fades and I don't see them as much there for I am not sick and tired of them.

What about a beer is manly? How about a wrench? Anyway, I know a very muscled fellow with a big "Nemo" on his arm. He is very manly, just loves clownfish. Of couse, it's way bigger than 1/2". I think if you add an anemone, that would help. They are very difficult to draw on skin though, to look real. I'm very unhappy with mine. I love the idea of them swimming around your belly button Tonya! The calf is probably one of the easiest places to get tattoed--least painful. As AG said, the love handles are awful! And that IS why most wussy guys don't finish their armbands...

I dont see why it would be so bad on the lovehandles area.. it seems pretty meaty there :D lol

I'm sure you know all about it though Puffer..

I think I could handle it though.. all these people sure are discouraging though! But thats why I wanted to post I guess..

Still thinking..

I'll post a new pic of what I drew now :D lol

Its hard to draw it upsidedown on myself!

I have no idea whay the lovehandles are so painful. Shocked me for sure! Must be some serious nerves there.

Joe, Part of the process & commitment (IMO) is feeling the pain of the tattoo. If I'm gonna sit for 3-4 hours though, I'll take some ibuprofin. Since it is basically an open wound, I'm not sure it the artist would be happy using something like xylocaine. Generally, they just use Vasoline to stop the bleeding & keep the needle sliding smoothly.

You can use EMLA-a local anesthetic that is applied 2 hours before the tatoo. It is a mixture of 2.5% lidocaine and 3.5% prilocaine. We use it prior to needle sticks especially for children.

TOO SMALL ... If you want it to look good and stay looking good, you really have to get a larger piece done, particularly if it is in an area where you are stretching the skin a lot. I would do a little coral scene or something if that is what you are into. For realistic color underwater Deano Cook is the best (IMO)

His site is here: http://www.psychotats.com/images/cook/cook_frames.html

I use Kim Saigh. Her site is here: www.milkmadeart.com

In Chicago, check out Cherry Bomb Tattoo or Deluxe Tattoo

There are plenty of excellent artists right here in Chgo.

I agree there is a tattoo shop in Lockport that has very good artist (I have 2 tatts from them)and you can stay away from Chicago prices

PITW - If I were you, I'd avoid the stomach area. IMO the "girly" tattoo spots are on your midsection and lower back. I would definately get it on my calf, but nothing that small. Think about adding a little more to it. If you take any sort of pain killer/number, then your friends are going to think that you're a pansy regardless of what they tell ya. The pain isn't that bad (except maybe on the midsection), it kinda feels like a hot knife after a while, it's actually kinda cool.

I second Joe's suggestion about the triggerfish. Get something tough lookin' .

PITW-is this what you are looking for?

The meaning behind the clownfish is that i love the ocean always have always will, and animals, and I love the hobby so if I quit reefing, I'll still love the ocean & fish/animals...

I dont know
I love the ocean also, so I got this on my right upper arm (friend drew it up for me):

Pufferpunk I seem to disagree with you on the inner, upper arm thing. 2 weeks ago I got a tat there with out any major pain difference compared to my upper right arm (outter). Last friday I got a large bull (I'm a taurus) and it was extremly painful, had to bite my fingers as he did the upper parts. Maby I am just different compared to most people, but that tat didn't make me want to come back for more, like my last ones had.
