Spicy Shrimp Scampi

Last month I cycled my second tank and things were going pretty well. So, I checked

pH 8.2
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 20
Amonia 0 (<.25)

I was happy and added 2 False Perc, 1 Royal Gramma, 1 scissor tail goby (LFS gave me that for free)...

I first lost one of the perc...then scissor tail and then the Gramma!!!!

I thought I was killing them for some odd reason, but the other day I discovered a Mantis... Solid black and about 3" looking directly at me... my heart stopped for few second and I thought I saw an evil smirk....

Anyway, I am planning to catch him and then do the following with him...

Make a Spicy Shrimp Scampi out of him, so he learn how does it feel like to be eaten...

Ok, here's my recipe...

1 Mantis Shrimp, peeled and deveined
3 Tbs Butter
3 Tbs Olive oil
3 Cloves garlic, minced
1/2 tsp Ground white pepper
1/2 tsp Red pepper flakes
1/4 tsp Cayenne pepper
1/4 tsp Dried oregano
Juice of 1 lemon
1/2 cups Parmesan cheese
5 Tbs Italian bread crumbs
1/4 cup Parsley, minced
Salt to taste
1 lb of Cooked fettucini or linguine

1. I will Melt butter with the olive oil in a saute' pan.

2. When the mixture is hot, I will add the garlic, white pepper, red pepper flakes, oregano, and cayenne pepper (stir well).

3. When garlic looks cooked but not brown (about 3 minutes), add the Shrimp. Toss the Shrimp about in the pan, coating it with the spiced oil.

4. Then I will add the lemon juice and keep tossing over the heat.

5. At this time, I will quickly add the parsley, bread crumbs, and Parmesan.

6. I will toss to coat completely. The Shrimp should now be bright pink and cooked through.

7. I will place the pan under the broiler until cheese looks melted (1 - 2 minutes).

8. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.

9. Serve over the cooked pasta, with additional Parmesan sprinkled over the top. My mother in law will love it

Instead of you eating him could I have him. I have been looking for a long time for a good mantis I can put him up in my 10 gallon. I would pay for shipping and all that.

Why punish an animal for it's natural behavior? I wouldn't want a mantis shrimp in a community tank and would certainly try to capture it . . . but why kill it? There are many hobbyists (myself included) who would gladly pay shipping for the bug. This board is also frequented by Dr. Roy Caldwell, a ("the") stomatopod expert, who might be willing to take the specimen. Witness a recent thread on this forum -- a hitchhiker shrimp could possibly be an example of an undescribed species.

Besides, I've heard that mantis shrimp taste pretty nasty.

:D

If Mantis_Shrimp wants to eat him that that's his decision, I would prefer to have him but I am not going to judge Mantis_Shrimp for eating him

he e he he he:D :p

Sorry to worry you there guys...but I am actually not eating him. It was a joke. I took it to the LFS who kept and gave it away. If I saw your post, I may have sent it to you instead ...sorry :(

I am about to get some (about 300lbs) Rock (Marshall, Fiji and other). All will be uncure.d. Mantis always hitch a ride with Marshall island rock. I will let you all know before I consider another Scampi :D :D :D
