Sponges

I've been having some red slime algae problems in both of my tanks i haven't been able to get the parameters right. well tonight i went to take a rock out and scrub it and i had to tug pretty hard.
well i look on it and there's a sponge. i look on the rock that it was on top of and there is a torn piece of sponge.
My question is do sponges regenerate or have i just killed this sponge? it mean it is a hitchhiker on live rock but still i feel pretty bad about it.

It'll likely regenerate with no problem, if it doesn't die from contact with air.

i never pulled it out from underneath the water i turned the rock over to see what i had pulled on it replaced it on the other side of the tank it didn't seem stable after i put it back on top.

YAY!!! Now you have Two sponges. They will be fine.
