deep sea green acro. same size as birds nest.
big purpple acro colony.
green slimer frag 1 inch.

im looking for lps accans or anytinng else. let me know what you got. i also have a medium sized colony of pink digita that im not sure i want to get rid of but if the price or trade is right ill consider it. please let me know if you want anything these need to go there haveing a huge draw on my calcium and with out ca reactor i dont want to neglect them let me knwo.

With what you listed, there is no way you should be experiencing a HUGE draw on anything. If your experiencing problems, it more than likely relates to an unbalanced water chemistry or improper dosing methods.

well from the day befor i put them in my alk was at 11-12 ish now its 13-14 and i cant get it back to were it needs to be. i just dont want to chance it with them and kill them off i want to see them do good in someone others tank that is ready for sps i defitnly am not yet.

Matt- I have some Hammer and Frogspawn that I can trade for the SPS. You just have to get up here (Wexford) to see if you are interested.

Matt,

If your alk went up, you should stop using the 2nd part of your two part dosing. What's your calcium level in the tank, because that could have something to do with it too...I'm with TJ...there's NO way those acros by themselves, or even combined with unreal coraline growth and several other SPS colonies would contribute to the problems you're experiencing. Getting acans and other LPS won't solve any of your problems with unbalanced water parameters.

not sure what my cal. is but alk and cal. go hand and hand so its way low. and most of you guys made me terafied about sps saying acro are so hard to keep that im pretty much secoud quessing my desicion.

Please post the prices that you're willing to accept or I'll need to close this thread. We don't support "highest bidder" selling.

Thanks

You couldn't be more wrong. I keep my alk at between 10.5 and 12. The assumption would be that my calcium would be low (below 300 ppm) but because of my dosing method, it consistently keeps it up around 400 ppm. While it still runs slightly low, you can't assume that its unacceptably low because of higher alkalinity. You need to buy a calcium test kit (also curious to learn what kit you're using to test your alk with) to be sure of what it is.

You are committed to learning what you need to in order to make this whole tank thing work. You have the lighting and from what I've seen, the flow necessary for SPS. If your colonies are growing as much as you say they are, there's absolutely no reason for you to be looking at getting out of SPS right now just because of fear.

You should be checking the following parameters with some regularity (I'd recommend 3 times a week for the first 2 months, and if everything keeps stable, reducing to once a week or less).

Alkalinity
Magnesium (half as often as alk)
Calcium
Nitrates
Nitrites (only when cycling)
Ammonia (only when cycling)
Salinity
pH
Phosphates (half as often as alk)

If you aren't testing all these, (with the exception of the nitrites and ammonia,) then you shouldn't be keeping ANY kind coral. If you are, and they're all in check, then you shouldn't be intimidated by any kind of coral (except maybe expert only stuff that requires target feeding i.e. gorgonians, sun coral.)

+1

Nates right !!

and as ca. goes, every time I mix new water for a water change, after one day the mix water has alk at 13 and ca at 540.

You "NEED" a ca test kit!

when i get my pay check friday i will run out and get one. but i still want out of sps im not sure that im at the capablity level as most to keep them i think im more equiped and more able to keep lps and softies for now.

Well, that's a decision that you need to make for yourself, and I'd never presume to tell you what to do with your tank. Just don't want to see you quit something from fear.
