Purple Cap Question:

A normal healthy purple cap is deep purple with little blue flowers on it.
When ever I take the shroud off of my Hydor Koralia 4, the Cap gets a bit more flow and it seems that BROWN diatoms or something starts growing on it and the polyp extension is not that great? Is it me or does the Cap not like much flow?


SPS in General:

Can most SPS exist near a power head without any problems? I have 4 Koralia 4's in a 125 Gallon tank. I Think my Flow is great but with the shroud on The flow is Pretty linear. With the shroud off its wide and encompassing. Which is best?

Whenever the flow that hits my orange cap is too strong it does the same thing, it is tearing the flesh away from the skeleton in those spots and the algae grows on the exposed skeleton. They like flow, just not direct flow.

As far as in general sps love flow, I have a 200gph return and an mp40w in a 29g tank set at about 50%. Each coral is different, but be careful with direct flow blasting directly into any coral.

agree with the above post. Replaced koralias with vortechs and the flow is more but is gentler and my montis healed where this was happening.

It's amazing the increased flow without the end piece on the koralias too....
