How bad would this be? I need to get those parasitic snails off, but having a hard time getting them all underwater. If I could take the clam out I can go over him with a toothbrush and get all the little punk snails off. Is it okay to remove the Squamosa for say 5 minutes?

why not just fill a small bowl with tank water put him in it at the time you get the water and then clean. you can then take him out of the water for seconds instead of minutes.

I have had clams out of the water for upto 5 mins at a a time. Just make sure it closes up fully befor etaking it out of hte water. You need to keep a bucket handy to just keep the clam wet and another for rinsing. I used the following method to remove aiptasia:

Take clam out of tank, keep two buckets nearby. Get old toothbruh and scrub the hell out of aiptasia or whatever. Rinse. Rinse. Scrub. Dip in clean water. wash toothbrush and scrub again. Finaly dip/risnse in good water before returning to the tank.

He will be fine out of the eater the few minutes that you scrub him. Whe will be some what irretated but should be back to normal a few hours after you put him back in the tank.

Thanks for the tips! I'm here looking to buy a huge bowl and didn't even think about all the 5 gallon buckets I have in the garage

YOu can leave it out of the water for a long time with out harming it. Clam farmers take the clams out of the water and set them in the sun for an hour to induce spawining. Not saying you shoudl do that, but 5 or 10 minutes while you remove snails will be fine.
