squasoma lighting

I am going to upgrade my lighting and I was wondering what lighting squasomas require..... I heard that they require less light than crocea and maximas

Squamosa and Derasa are found lower in the natural reefs so they don't require intense lighting such as the Maximas and Crocea do, which are found higher in the reefs. However, Squamosa and Derasa will thrive much better under stronger lighting such as MH's.

With that being said, Squamosa and Derasa will do fine under stronger PC's and VHO's. I currently have a Squamosa which is thriving under my 4-95 watt VHO's on a 75 gallon 18" high reef tank.

Clams that are under 3 inches in length don't require intense lighting because they will feed on phytoplankton from the water. So they will need to be fed on a regular basis. This is why you see a lot of small clams in Nano Reefs with lower lighting. However, once a clam reaches about 4 or so inches, they won't depend on phytoplankton as much as they do light. However, this does not mean they don't need to be fed certain types of food like phytoplankton.

Just my .02 cents.

Rock Anemone:D

Very well said Rock..

I wouldn't recommend a deresa because they get so big.. but just my opinion.. I would rather have a hippopus than a deresa..

Just my $.02
