All of my corals are doing well under 4 ,3 foot T5's but my star polyps are not doing so well and are showing signs of backing off.
I use phyto plankton, and calcium reactor, water changes weekly. any tips. thanks.

Make sure they have adequate flow. Just enough to toss their arms around. Stars sometimes take a couple weeks to come completely out (ours did). You have enough light, thats not your problem. Make sure your levels are in check and give them time. How long have they been in the tank?

I am having similar issues with a colony of star polyps that I bought nearly 2 months ago. When I first got them I didn't have adequate lighting, but even after getting a new T5 fixture they have just never taken off like the ones you see covering rocks and growing like weeds. I'm attributing it to the fact that my tank is still so young and unstable. I really don't think there is much else I can do, but wait. How old is your tank?

Usually they open up pretty quick (like within a few hours). However, don't be worried if it takes them a day or two to open. Sometimes even after being in the tank for a long time they spontaneously close up because of a crab or something and don't open again all day.

Alkalinity was a big factor in the length of the tenticles on mine. I never had a problem untill I moved mine to another tank. Now they sometimes do not come out at all for 6 hours or so.

My friend put his in high flow and they actually jumped to a rock a few inches away. I swear they get bigger every day. They seem to love high flow from what ive seen.
