Starting from scratch...no live rock, no live sand.

To make a long story short, I had to do away with my SW tank a quite awhile back. My live rock and sand is no longer "live". I am looking to start things back up again and I am wondering where to begin.

I still have the "dead" rock and sand which I will be using in the tank. How should I go about getting this thing back up and running. Should I just pickup a few pounds of live sand from someone on here and add it to my tank? Would this be the best way to help get the bacteria, pods, and worms back into the system?

Thanks,

Chris

yea take a look at your local reef clubs and see if u can find someone to give you a few pounds of their sand and buy a few pounds of lr to seed ur dead stuff

as wierd as this sounds sometimes I wish I could just start over from scratch. You learn so much as things go along. I know wierd huh.

I think you can reuse the sand but make sure you rinse it out good. Purchase some live sand and spread it over the top or mix it into the old sand. As for the live rocks, I would probably go out and purchase new ones that are cured.

rinse the sand some, keep your rocks, you may want to cure them a bit since its merely base rock now. Start your cycle, once complete, get a few peices of quality cured LR to seed the system.
